Honestly, I’m not sure I really knew. I spent the most time thinking about being a primary school teacher but then changed my mind on the last minute! I think I was more interested in building props for the classroom and designing wall displays than the actual teaching bit. Looking back, all the other careers I considered (including painting artificial eyes) involved designing and making something useful for humans. If only I had realised there was a term for that, engineering!

I think I always wanted to be an electrician, I wasn’t that good at school until my last year so Uni wasn’t an option, but I got better grades in the last year and when to Uni. But I have been interested in electronics and electrical engineering since as long as I remember. I had a logic gate set in primary school and my uncle took me out on site to do electrical work.

I’ve wanted to be sooo many different things. I remember wanting to be a vet when I was very little – I guess I must have been interested in STEM from a young age! I’ve also wanted to be an astronaut, a musician, a scientist… and most recently a fusion engineer!
I think all those jobs are quite similar, musicians use lots of maths and patterns – just like an engineer 🙂

I changed my mind ALLLLL the time!

Depended on what i was doing at that moment in time!

I always remember every 5th November i wanted to be a Pyrotechnic (someone who worked with fireworks)

I think i have wanted to be almost everything at one point, even after my degree i wasn’t sure! I started in one position, realised it wasnt for me and tried another! I super enjoy project engineering but now trying another job! commissioning engineer.

May feel like a lot of pressure is on to decide before you choose your subjects but, there is always time to change. Just takes you a little longer to get to the end but it’s worth it to enjoy what you do.

I genuinely wanted to be a fireman for ages, because my dad was one! But I changed my mind loads from wanting to be an officer in the army, a chef, a mechanic, a sport scientist to wanting to be a professional thai boxer!
