Why wouldn’t you want to make the world a better place. Right now I’m designing better radiotherapy systems. In Africa only 1 in 20 people who need radiotherapy have access to it, and they have to travel hundreds of miles for it. Those hospitals that do have it have issues getting it fixed when it breaks (and they can break a lot). A fault that would be fixed in one day in the UK can take months in Africa due to lack of trained people. We are trying to make a radiotherapy system that is less likely to break, and can be repaired locally if it does. Its something thats not an issue in the west.

I’m not currently in a position where i help people in my everyday life (really) I suppose my job helps provide internet and power in the end..,

but i do alot of extra curricular activities to help explain what being an engineer is like, I know when i was younger i thought it was something super complicated and very hands on but this is not the case at all!

Don’t get me know, learning the technical stuff can be hard and there were a few subjects that i just could not get my head around! but there is an amazing support from universities and your fellow students to help each other, everyone has a strong subject! mine was not computer programming!

As per my profile, I just want to share my experiences and let people know the side of engineering i have experienced! I did not always want to be one, but cannot imagine not being one now!

I think everyone can do something to make the future better and more exciting. At the moment, I love working with scientists who are doing some incredible experiments making better medicines, checking materials are safe for building with, working out how to make batteries better, investigating how solar flares affect electronics so we can improve the electronics. The work I do as an engineer helps other engineers and scientists do their jobs which are helping people. One of the scientists who use my systems has used them to plan experiments to improve the speed and the way medicines and taken up by the body so they have an effect sooner.
